We live in an old house.

An old, small house.

With the boys growing every day, personal space is at a premium around here. Oh, they both have their own rooms, but there seems to always be a battle over the living room television – one wants to watch television while another wants to play a videogame while Larry is trying to watch the Red Sox.

Finally, over the winter we decided it was time to consider expanding our living space.  NOT BY MOVING.  By partitioning the basement and making part of it a playroom/living room. And adding a full-sized basement bulkhead for access (currently the exterior door from the basement to the yard is three feet tall).

The work began on Monday.

Here is the ‘before’ photo:

You can see the basement door at the far end, up the gray stairs.  The entire door is in the photo.

They estimate it to be about a three-week job. But we’re going on vacation for a week in a week, so it will take a calendar month. Give or take.

Stay tuned for progress photos!
