On Sunday my friend Melissa’s family had a milestone: it was the first anniversary of their son’s leukemia diagnosis.

I’m happy to report he’s doing very well; he’s in remission, and although he’s got another year of weekly treatment ahead of him, the prognosis is excellent.

So out of a sense of gratitude and grace, their family wanted to mark the occasion by paying it forward. They asked everyone to perform a random act of kindness on Sunday and for every act reported back, they would donate a can of Play-Doh to the children’s hospital.

Here’s a video they posted explaining the idea:

So, how could our family say no to that?

We made a donation to the local food pantry.

We dropped off a bag of clothes to the school donation bin.

We did yard work for our neighbor who is unable to do his own.

We bought a box of Play-Doh to chip in, too.

It was a great way to spend an October Sunday.

And then yesterday was Halloween.
