When Alistair quit tae quon do last fall, we agreed that he’d try something else.  He chose art classes, and began in January.

The studio held its annual exhibition on Sunday.

Then yesterday was his birthday – eight years old.  Unbelievable.

Every year on his birthday we take him on a field trip of his choice, this year he chose the Museum of Fine Arts.  So he went to school, and I dismissed him at 10:30 – his class sang happy birthday to him and gave him a card before he left.  He and I then spent a happy few hours wandering around the museum, which has installed a new quilt exhibition since the last time we were there.

He has an affinity for patterns – he was fascinated by the quilts, how so many repeats of the same small pattern can be combined to make a big pattern.  And then he proceeded to find patterns throughout the museum – this was his favorite.

We had a little lunch in the museum cafe, and then headed home.

Dinner was the birthday boy’s choice – tacos.  And then it was time for a few presents and a little cake; his party isn’t til Saturday.
