Sublime: Watching your not-quite-3-year-old count to 20.

Ridiculous: He was counting the pieces of porkchop he had no intention of eating.

He’s such a good eater most of the time – he’ll at least try almost anything you ask him to.  But lately he’s developed this stubborn streak, where he decides he doesn’t want to eat what’s in front of him.

And he has a will of steel; if he doesn’t want to do it, you’re not gonna get him to do it.  Period.

We try to distract him with chitchat or the lure of dessert or the promise of something extra-fun, and poke a few bites into his mouth when his mind is elsewhere.   Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Once in a while we break down and make him a P B & J, but we really make an effort not to let it go that far.  He hasn’t quite caught on that he runs the joint, and we’re trying like hell to keep that bit of information away from him.

It’s a good thing he’s so cute, right?
