As some of you know, CC has been taking karate lessons at a local dojo for nearly a year now.

As part of her training, her sensei requires all students to participate in community service projects on a regular basis; for instance, over the summer they cleaned up a park along the Charles River.  In addition to volunteering in a group, each student also has to select and organize a charity project of their own.

CC decided on a knitting-themed project.  She’s been knitting, crocheting, and collecting hats and scarves for donation to the Dana Farber Caps for Kids program.  Her goal was to donate 50 items by the end of November.

This is the pile she sent out to them last Friday:

That’s 88 pieces, guys.  After I took the photo another 20-something pieces were dropped off to her, bringing her total to well over 100, with three weeks yet to go.

She’s become quite the media darling over it all, too.  Not only was her project highlighted on Veronica’s blog the other day, but she was also interviewed – and photographed, even! – for an article in the newspaper.

Pretty cool, no?

PS, if you want to add a little something to the next box, she’d be thrilled to have it – just leave me a comment and I’ll let you know how/where to send your stuff.
