Went to the guild meeting last night; the subject was “Math for Knitters”.

We started with “how to convert yards to meters and vice versa” and then moved into “if the pattern calls for 10 balls at 200 yards, and the yarn you want to use comes in 75-yard balls, how many balls do you need?”

I rarely come across the yards to meters thing; most patterns and yarns give you both sets of figures.  And thanks to the wonders of Excel, I already know how to do the overall yardage conversion thing.

Then we moved into how to work out even spacing – how space increases and decreases evenly,  and how to properly space buttonholes.  This was enormously was enormously helpful; I had at least three “Aha!” moments.  Not bad for a 45-minute session.

On tap for the weekend:  very little.  I was toying with the idea of planting greens and beans outside this weekend, but the forecast says rainy and 40’s; not good gardening weather.

I’ll probably finish my brother’s second mitt tonight, and then begin the baby blanket.

And there’s housework, always with the housework, and that’s about it.

Have a great weekend!
